Chasing Light: How Photography Went From a Passion to a Purpose
There was a time when the hours would just disappear—I’d lose track of everything while diving deep into photography. I was obsessed in the best way. Always reading, testing, exploring new techniques, and trying to figure out how to freeze emotion in a single frame.
My friends used to tease me about how seriously I took it. They’d laugh when I’d stop mid-conversation to catch the way sunlight hit a wall or when I’d obsess over one photo for hours. But honestly? I didn’t care. I was in my own world, and I loved it there. That drive to get “the shot” was louder than anyone’s jokes.
Looking back, it’s wild to see how far I’ve come. I remember my very first camera like it was yesterday—the awkward grip, the blurry first shots, the endless online videos and book rabbit holes just trying to figure out aperture and ISO. It wasn’t always easy. It was trial and error, lots of frustration, and even more late nights editing and studying.
But I wouldn’t trade it for anything. Every step, every cringe-worthy photo I took in the beginning, taught me something. Photography became more than just a hobby—it gave me purpose, direction, and even healing at times.
Today, I’m grateful. Grateful for the passion that never let up, for the people who believed in me (even quietly), and for every opportunity to keep learning and leveling up. Growth is constant. And that’s the beauty of this craft—it always gives you something new to see, feel, and share.
To anyone just starting out or doubting where they’re headed—keep going.
Lean into the passion, the curiosity, and yes, even the messy parts.
Because it all adds up.
And one day, you’ll look back and realize just how far you’ve come.
